Support Engineer (US timezone)

Whether our colleagues are working on troubleshooting a complex customer issue, teaching someone how to use a feature or discussing new feature requests with our development team, they can always be found going above and beyond the call of duty. Our customers and users are their main priority at all times and we’re looking for someone with an equally customer-focused mind-set.

This position requires advanced troubleshooting skills and creative problem solving capabilities. You will work remotely as there is no central office, and most of us work from home. You will also take part in on-call rotation.

What will be your responsibilities:

You will be responsible for providing support for our customers: identifying and debugging the problems in our software. Some of this will require you to understand the state and the configuration of the databases ClusterControl manages.

You will also be providing help to our sales team by assisting them in the technical calls with prospects and customers. Along with the rest of the team you will be taking care of the internal infrastructure – website and related load balancers and databases.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experienced in managing MySQL or PostgreSQL databases.
  • Able to backup the database
  • Have experience in configuring the database based on the hardware specifications
  • Able to identify and fix a problematic query
  • Know how to setup a proper monitoring solution and use it to improve database performance
  • Familiar with basic High Availability concepts and know how to apply them in production
  • Know scripting languages that you can use for automating your tasks
  • Know your way around Linux operating systems (Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL, Centos)
  • Have great troubleshooting skills
  • Willing to take part in the on-call rotation
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken. This position is customer-facing.

What would make you a perfect candidate (not required, but great if you ticked some boxes!):

  • Familiar with infrastructure orchestration tools like Ansible, Chef or Puppet
  • Have worked with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Exposure to NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Redis
  • Experience in managing TimeScaleDB
  • Experience in managing Galera Cluster or other HA environments
  • Experience in managing PostgreSQL in a HA environment
  • Experience in managing MSSQL
  • Have worked with ProxySQL or MaxScale
  • Able to find your way in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Have worked in a full-remote company
